First Chapter First Paragraph Tuesday Intros is a weekly meme hosted by Diane at Bibliophile By the Sea. Each week, participants share a paragraph (or two) from a book they are currently reading or are planning to read soon.
Today I’m going to share the first couple of paragraphs of Sometimes I Lie by Alice Feeney. I received a copy of this book at Book Expo 2017 and I’ll be starting it later today.
First Chapter, First Paragraph
Now, Boxing Day, December 2016
“I’ve always delighted in the free fall between sleep and wakefulness. Those precious few semiconscious seconds before you open your eyes, when you catch yourself believing that you dreams might just be your reality. A moment of intense pleasure or pain, before your senses reboot and inform you of who and where and what you are. For now, for just a second longer, I’m enjoying the self-medicated delusion that permits me to imagine that I could be anyone, I could be anywhere, I could be loved.”
What do you think? Would you continue reading?
I love an unreliable narrator! This first paragraph has definitely captured my attention.
Wow what a poignant opener! I want to read more…
I haven’t been able to read as much as I’d have liked today but so far it’s very good.
That intro grabbed me; I hope you enjoy this one.
Thanks, Diane. I’m enjoying it so far! 🙂
That’s sad. I’d keep reading to see who, where, and if he/she ends up being loved.
I’ve only gotten a few chapters in but I have the feeling there is more to her statement than meets the eye. 😉
